the story

"My hope is for every guest to feel the same joy, inspiration and creativity; feeling truly alive."

The name asja originally comes from a simple acronym of our names. After a while, however, this name became truly symbolic. Depending on its origin, in Slavic or Arabic languages, asja means resurrection, eastern sunrise, grace, protection, joy,...

After working in academia, I felt dead inside, empty and burned out. My brain stopped working. There was a total sense of disconnection; from myself, from the world, from others. Moments of inspiration were scarce, only taking place in nature or during travels.

The story of filling the guesthouse with joy, was also about filling my heart and soul with joy. My joie de vivre came back to life as the guesthouse took shape, as if my soul was ‘resurrected’. Slowly, I started dreaming again.

My biggest inspiration and pillar of strength is asja, the woman as described here. She is soft yet courages, reflective yet vigorous, fearless and resilient. She is the mother of all mothers. She doesn’t exist, yet she exists.

My hope is for every guest to feel the same joy, inspiration and creativity; feeling truly alive.
